Direct Interface: Arcanotechnicians and Crystals

An important development was the discovery that trained arcanotechnicians can directly interface with crystals without requiring the control modulator:

• A practitioner can generate the necessary electronic patterns themselves to trigger conversion of the Flux concentrated in the crystal
• This eliminates the need for the heavy arcanotechnic modulator (saving ~40-50 kg)
• The crystal acts simply as a Flux reservoir that the arcanotechnician can exploit
• Versatility remains that of the practitioner - the crystal just provides more “fuel”

Tactical Advantages

• Extended endurance: An arcanotechnician with a crystal can operate much longer before exhaustion
• Amplified power: Access to Flux density superior to ambient Flux
• Portability: A crystal alone weighs only a few kilograms, easily transportable
• Flexibility: The practitioner retains their ability to adapt conversions according to needs

Limitations

• Requires a trained arcanotechnician (does not democratize access)
• The crystal remains subject to the same recharging and explosion problems
• The practitioner must consciously manage the discharge rate to avoid killing the crystal
• Direct interface is more mentally fatiguing than using ambient Flux

This crystal-practitioner synergy has become standard in elite military units and for civilian arcanotechnicians operating in low Flux density zones.
