Maneuvers

Maneuvers encompass all non-offensive actions: item use, environment interaction, special interactions, etc.

Associated roll: d20 + Appropriate Stat (often DEX, INT, or PER). The GM sets the difficulty based on the context (see “Dice Roll” section).

Characters with the Strategist skill can perform two maneuvers per turn.

Maneuver Examples by Statistic

Charisma-based Maneuvers (CHA)

  • Intimidation: Demoralize an enemy (CHA roll) -> -2 to the target’s attacks for 2 turns
  • Rally: Encourage allies (CHA roll) -> +1 to an ally’s next roll within a 10m radius
  • Quick Negotiation: Convince an enemy to temporarily switch sides (CHA roll, very hard)
  • Tactical Command: Coordinate movements (CHA roll) -> an ally can move for free

Perception-based Maneuvers (PER)

  • Tactical Analysis: Spot enemy weaknesses (PER roll) -> reveals the target’s defense bonuses
  • Ambush Detection: Anticipate a surprise attack (PER roll) -> +2 to the group’s initiative
  • Battlefield Surveillance: Locate threats (PER roll) -> alerts to hidden enemies
  • Reading Intentions: Predict the enemy’s next action (PER roll) -> defense bonus against that attack

Intelligence-based Maneuvers (INT)

  • Technical Analysis: Identify equipment weak points (INT roll) -> -2 to the target’s armor bonuses
  • Ballistic Calculation: Optimize group fire (INT roll) -> +2 to allied ranged attacks this turn
  • Quick Hacking: Temporarily disable an enemy system (INT roll) -> penalty to exoskeletons
  • Adaptive Strategy: Reorganize the formation (INT roll) -> +1 defense to all allies

Constitution-based Maneuvers (CON)

  • Second Wind: Recover stamina (CON roll) -> regain 2d4 HP (once per combat)
  • Heroic Resistance: Ignore pain (CON roll) -> immunity to injury penalties for 3 turns
  • Combat Endurance: Maintain effort (CON roll) -> can perform an additional action
  • Quick Recovery: Shake off an effect (CON roll) -> end a debuff prematurely

Strength-based Maneuvers (STR)

  • Destructive Charge: Smash obstacles (STR roll) -> destroys light cover and barriers
  • Shove: Violently push back an enemy (STR roll) -> the target is pushed back 3 meters
  • Lift: Use the environment as a weapon (STR roll) -> improvise a heavy weapon
  • Grapple: Immobilize an opponent (opposed STR roll) -> prevents movement

Dexterity-based Maneuvers (DEX)

  • Acrobatics: Traverse difficult terrain (DEX roll) -> ignore terrain penalties this turn
  • Disarm: Remove an enemy’s weapon (opposed DEX roll) -> the enemy loses their weapon
  • Spectacular Dodge: Completely avoid an attack (DEX roll) -> immunity to a targeted attack
  • Reposition: Move without triggering opportunity attacks (DEX roll)

Precision-based Maneuvers (PRE)

  • Precision Shot: Aim at a specific point (PRE roll) -> partially ignores armor
  • Suppressive Fire: Force enemies to take cover (PRE roll) -> -2 to enemy actions
  • Ricochet: Bounce a shot (PRE roll) -> hit a target behind cover
  • Disabling Shot: Target enemy equipment (PRE roll) -> temporarily disable an item
